Cape Town has been selected as the World Design Capital for 2014. The World Design Capital is a project that promotes and celebrates the value of design. this project is held every 2 years and its aim is to feature the accomplishments of the different cities around the world who are truly making use of design as a tool to improve the economical, social and cultural life of cities.
According to Ms. Patricia de Lille, the fact that Cape Town is chosen as the 2014 World Design Capital “is a reflection of how the city has socially and physically reinvented itself.” the vision that the Mother City has is founded on socially responsible design, sustainability and innovation. The main theme that was introduced as part of Cape Town’s bid was “Live Design. Transform Life”. The main objective of this theme is to support the focus of enhancing Cape Town’s infrastructure to make it a more livable and inhabitable African City.
